The six-voice male a cappella vocal ensemble Chanson was formed in 1997 at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, where the young musicians were members of Concordia's famed traveling choir directed by René Clausen. The ensemble has since toured widely, released three compact disc recordings including "Come Sing to Me of Heaven" and "There is Sweet Music", and performed at the René Clausen Choral School. The ensemble is gaining a reputation for performing exciting choral music in a uniquely rich and expressive style. Audiences have responded to the ensemble's seamless blend, precise intonation, and warm, resonant sound. Chanson's engaging concerts feature a wide variety of musical styles, including creative folk song arrangements, Renaissance motets, passionate Russian anthems, and energetic spirituals. Many concerts feature a newly commissioned work.
